Delhi Today

Flooding today
It takes only a short, hard rain to create severe flooding in Delhi.  Water quickly  rises a couple of feet on the roads, cars must be abandoned,  and more insane chaos and traffic follows.
A civil engineer I met today explained that it all happens so quickly here because of the heavy liter on the roads, with (among other things) plastic bags. The drains  are not  properly maintained, and therefore when the rain comes, they get choked up. There is also poor street grading and general lack of upkeep to help.
When the rain subsides, and almost as quickly,  the water goes away, and the streets drain.  Another day.
On a more colorful note, in the last few days, I have been amassing such amazing collection of hand woven IKAT fabrics, which I will be using for napkins, tablecloths, pillows, etc....the  usual....
